Many have been asking when Religious Education registration will start and when we plan to resume our 2020-2021 catechetical year. Due to the continuing effects of the Corona Virus and its effect on social distancing, we as a parish team have spent most of the summer partnering with the Diocesan Office of Evangelization and Catechesis as well as many of our surrounding parishes developing a plan that would best serve the needs of the youth and their families.
After watching for signals from the local school district and listening to seminars on the subject, it has been decided that the 2020-2021 elementary catechetical year (Pre-K4 through 5th grades) will begin using online classes for all elementary RE. Middle School and High School RE will be a mixture of online and occasional in-person, and it is still being developed. To accomplish our task of developing disciples of Jesus Christ, we will begin online registration for all RE levels on Monday, August 17, 2020 and will be available until Saturday, September 19, 2020. Please visit our registration page for details and to register your children.
As the 2020-2021 catechetical year prepares to begin, everyone is reminded of our need of people willing to share their faith with our youth as catechists. Training will be provided for the new online program we plan to use. Instruction and encouragement is also available for anyone who feels they are not completely prepared to be a teacher. Never believe you lack the skills needed to teach or that you are deficient in your understanding of the faith. The only necessary tools needed are a love of our Catholic faith and trust in the God who created us in his image and likeness. Trust Jesus when he tells us that he will be with us until the end of the age. Jesus is with us whenever we come together to share our faith, so let the little children come, knowing Jesus walks with us in our classrooms.
God meets us where we are and gives us the strength and knowledge to become the disciples he created us to be. The RE resource team will walk with you and provide guidance as needed. For additional information, please call Deacon John at 512-259-9050 or contact him via email at [email protected]. All catechists, both those returning and our new catechists, are asked to contact him. All are welcome and needed.
Faith Formation: The Church's catechetical mission aims to help the faithful of all ages to grow in both human and Christian maturity, enriching the whole of life with the leaven of the Gospel. Consequently, appropriate goals and content will embrace all the faith dimensions of life—for example, understanding and communicating the faith, skills needed for personal growth, the experience of family life, relationships, public service, and concern for the common good.
